Concrete’s Economic Benefits

Concrete pavement offers longer life, lower life cycle costs, and less inconvenience to the public, than asphalt.

Concrete pavement consistently serves 20-30 years without needing major repair, while asphalt generally lasts only 8-12 years before resurfacing, or significant repairs are required.

Concrete avoids the numerous seal coats or overlays typical of asphalt surfaces. Concrete parking lots are much easier to construct, usually requiring only one pavement pass. Concrete construction is easier due to the minimum excavation requirements and the advantage of integral curb and gutter.

When considering lifecycle costs to alternative roadway and parking surfaces, concrete becomes the clear choice for optimal value due to lower maintenance costs, greater strength for spreading loads and ease of construction fewer night lights and more secure environs for drivers, or tenants.
