SNCA Gives Canoe Builders a Hand
Nevada Engineering Students Competing for National Title

Concrete. You walk on it. You drive on it. And it floats.
The Sierra Nevada Concrete Association is helping sponsor the Nevada Concrete Canoe Team in its quest for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) National Concrete Canoe Championship. The Wolf Pack paddlers finished first in last year’s regional competition and third in last year’s national finals held in Seattle, WA.
“The competition provides civil engineering students an opportunity to gain hands-on, practical experience and leadership skills by working with concrete mix designs and project management,” said Brent Coulson, past President of Sierra Nevada Concrete Association.
The SNCA made a $1,000 contribution to the Nevada Canoe Team during the recent Concrete Expo. The funds will help the students attend both regional and the national competition to be held this year in Montreal, Canada. Each year, thousands of engineering students from around the world test their technical skills by designing, constructing, and paddling canoes made from concrete. Ultimately, the top teams from each region (including teams from Canada and Mexico) travel to the National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) in hopes of receiving the national title.

Nevada Museum of Art
The Sierra Nevada Concrete Association donated $18,000 toward the products and services needed to pave the Nevada Museum of Art’s new parking lot in concrete. “The money that would have been spent on overlays and repairs of an asphalt lot can now be put toward additional art work, art classes and bringing in national-caliber exhibits to the NMA,”
said Rick Reed, SNCA President.
The final pour took place March 28. 2003
